From its place in the Brussels international community, Rotary Club Brussel Cantersteen supports projects to promote positive social impact in Brussels. In order to realise the “Mbo Mpenza Cruyff Court” project, we work together with PlayandPeace, a platform set up in the wake of the attacks of March 2016.Contact the project holder

Our city is rapidly evolving, which can lead to heightened tensions arising among (young) people. ‘PlayandPeace Brussels’, Rotary Club Brussels Cantersteen and Mbo Mpenza have joined forces to set up a “Cruyff Court" in Molenbeek.
Support this campaign and take part in our six-a-side football tournament in aid of the “Cruyff Court”.
Just days before the Brussels attacks, former Dutch footballer Johan Cruyff passed away. “He put great store in values such as respect, responsibility, social commitment and team spirit. The Johan Cruyff Foundation came up with the concept of a Cruyff Court, a football pitch suitable for densely populated neighbourhoods with scant playing area. It’s something we’d like to see happen in Molenbeek, and with some luck at other locations too”, says Unico van Kooten. After all, sport helps brings people together. “Countless languages are spoken in Brussels, but the rules of football are universal, recognisable by all.”
Ex-RSCA player and former resident of Molenbeek, Jan Mulder, is over the moon about this: “My love for the Molenbeek municipality and the unforgettable Johan Cruyff, are why I’m 100% behind the creation of this kind of Court. Screw boredom and frustration: long live the rabonas and the pannas.”
PlayandPeace is still looking for additional funding. Rotary Club Brussels Cantersteen has committed itself to raising at least part of the funds needed. “We’ll match whatever is raised via this growfunding campaign”, says Joakim Darras, Chairman of Rotary Club Brussels Cantersteen. “If we raise 10,000 euros, we will donate 10,000 euros ourselves. By partnering with other Rotary Clubs at home and abroad, we stand a chance of being able to increase this sum.”
Our contribution to “Mbo Mpenza Cruyff Court” is part of our effort, as Rotary Club Cantersteen, to highlight the significance of sports among young people. It is also an opportunity for us to set a good example ourselves. All growfunders will be invited to a celebratory six-a-side football tournament on 10 June in Wemmel. The winners of the tournament will play an extra finale against a team of former football stars brought together by Mbo Mpenza.
